Conditioning for optimum sports performance


Competitive athletes, regardless of age, are focused on their performance — striving to perform better and move up on the team.

Michael Erickson, DPT, MS, LAT; Kara Molstad, PTA; and Jenna Goebel, PTA have experience working with middle school through collegiate level athletes who utilize injury prevention programs, post-injury rehabilitation, and personal training.

Athletes will receive instruction for safe movement and increased performance allowing them to gain strength and confidence to move forward in their sport.

The program begins with video analysis of each athlete performing two dynamic movements: drop jump landing and lateral bounding. Regardless of your sport — volleyball, soccer, basketball, tennis, hockey, or football — these movements are critical in jumping and cutting. Learning how to do them correctly can make all the difference in your performance.

30-50% of injuries that occur in youth athletes are due to overuse during practice and games. Many lower extremity injuries are the result of improper movement mechanics and muscle imbalances.

80% of ACL tears are noncontact injuries. ACL injury rates can be decreased through improving dangerous movement patterns, such as landing and cutting techniques.

After analysis of the video, a specific program is created for each athlete to help improve imbalances. At the conclusion of the program, another video analysis is completed to review improvements and offer recommendations for exercises post-series.


Michael Erickson, Physical Therapist, DPT, MS, LAT

Michael worked as an athletic trainer for four years before receiving his doctorate in physical therapy. Prior to joining St. Joseph's Hospital, Michael completed a three-month affiliation with the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. He also has worked with middle and high school as well as collegiate athletes.
